This document sets out Nisf's standards against child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), and how we prevent, detect, act on and report it.
It is published in compliance with the Google Play Child Safety Standards policy, the Apple App Store Review Guidelines, and our obligations under Indian law, including the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012 (POCSO), section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and the Information Technology (Intermediary Guidelines and Digital Media Ethics Code) Rules, 2021.
Child safety contact: info@nisfapp.com, subject line "CHILD SAFETY" (see §8).
1. Zero tolerance
Nisf has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation.
Child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content or conduct that sexualises, exploits, endangers or grooms a person under 18 is absolutely prohibited on Nisf. There is no warning, no strike system and no second chance for it.
Anyone who uploads, shares, solicits or seeks such material or conduct will have their account terminated immediately and permanently, their content preserved and removed from view, and their details reported to law enforcement and the relevant child protection authorities.
This applies regardless of the person's intent, their standing on the platform, whether they are a paying subscriber, or whether the content was created, received, forwarded or merely requested.
2. Nisf is an adults-only service
Nisf is a Muslim matrimonial service for adults aged 18 and over, seeking marriage. It is not a social network, not a dating app, and not a messaging service.
We do not knowingly permit anyone under 18 to use Nisf. If we learn that an account belongs to a minor, we delete it immediately and without notice.
Two structural facts about how Nisf is built are relevant to child safety, and we state them because they materially reduce the risk this policy addresses:
- Nisf has no in-app messaging. There is no chat, no direct message, no image sending between users. Grooming most often depends on a private channel between an adult and a child; Nisf does not provide one.
- A sister is reached through her wali, never directly. Nothing in the app puts one user in private contact with another. A sister decides whether her wali's (guardian's) contact details are visible to every eligible user or only to those whose request she has accepted, and the app requires her to choose. Where she has chosen to make them visible to everyone, a user can obtain them without sending her a request, which is the choice she made in advance; what they obtain is the number of the guardian she nominated, with whom any conversation then begins.
3. Age assurance
We apply the following measures to keep Nisf adult-only.
At profile creation. Every user must give their month and year of birth. We reject any value that would make the user younger than 18. This is enforced, not merely stated in our terms. Partner age preferences are likewise bounded at a minimum of 18, so the service cannot be used to search for minors.
Declaration. Under our Terms and Conditions §2.1, every user warrants that they are 18 or over, and misstating age is a breach of those terms and grounds for immediate removal.
Account verification. Accounts are manually verified by our team before a user can send or accept a request. Verification includes a contact telephone number, and for sisters the name, relationship and contact number of her wali, whom we may contact directly. An account that cannot be verified cannot be used to contact anyone.
Human review. Our team reviews profiles and photographs on an ongoing basis, working through live profiles whether or not anyone has reported them, and reviews every profile that is reported to us. A reviewer reads the profile text and looks at every photograph on the profile, including photographs accepted on an earlier review. Any profile that appears to belong to a minor is removed, whether or not the stated age says otherwise. A profile that looks like a child is treated as a child, and the burden of showing otherwise is on the account holder, not on us. What our reviewers check more generally is set out in §7.2 of the Terms and Conditions.
Ongoing. If a user is reported as, or otherwise appears to be, under 18, we suspend the account pending review rather than leaving it live.
We do not treat any single one of these as sufficient on its own. We keep our age-assurance measures under review and will strengthen them, including with additional verification, where risk warrants it.
4. What is prohibited
The following are prohibited absolutely. This list describes conduct; it is not exhaustive, and we will act on anything of the same character.
Child sexual abuse material. Creating, uploading, storing, sharing, linking to, requesting, soliciting or seeking any visual, written or audio depiction of a minor in a sexual context, including material that is drawn, animated, computer-generated, or produced or altered by artificial intelligence.
Sexualisation of minors. Any content that presents a person under 18 in a sexualised way, including a photograph that is innocent in itself but is captioned, framed, cropped or discussed sexually.
Grooming. Building a relationship, trust or emotional connection with a minor, or with an adult with access to a minor, in order to sexually exploit or abuse them, including attempting to move a minor to another platform for that purpose.
Solicitation and enticement. Asking a minor for sexual images, sexual conversation, or a meeting for a sexual purpose; or offering money, gifts, marriage or anything else in exchange for those things.
Child trafficking, forced or child marriage. Advertising, arranging, facilitating or seeking the marriage of, or sexual access to, a person under 18, including where a purported guardian offers a minor. Nisf must never be used to arrange the marriage of a child, in any jurisdiction, regardless of what local custom or law may permit.
Sextortion. Threatening to publish sexual imagery of a minor, or using such imagery to coerce them.
Facilitation. Advertising, linking to, or directing anyone toward CSAM or CSAE material or services, on or off Nisf.
Creating an account for a minor, or allowing a minor to use your account.
5. Prevention and detection
Design. As set out in §2, Nisf provides no private messaging channel, and an approach to a sister reaches her wali rather than her. This is the single most significant preventative measure we have, and it is structural rather than discretionary.
Photograph rules. Profile photographs must be recent photographs of the account holder themselves. Photographs containing other identifiable people, including children, are not permitted and are removed. Photographs are limited in number and are subject to review.
Human review. Our team reviews profiles and photographs, and reviews every report we receive: a reviewer opens the profile, reads it, and looks at each photograph on it. Every report raised in the app is routed immediately to our team, and reports touching on child safety are escalated ahead of all other moderation work.
Rapid takedown. We can deactivate a profile immediately, which removes it and its photographs from view for all users while we investigate. We do not wait for an investigation to conclude before removing suspected CSAE content from circulation.
Preservation. Where we identify or receive a credible report of CSAE, we preserve the account, the content and the associated records for law enforcement before removing the material from public view. We do not simply delete and move on, because doing so would destroy evidence.
Access controls. Access to user photographs and personal data is restricted to authorised personnel, and reviewing CSAE reports is a defined role, not something any employee may do casually.
We continue to invest in our ability to detect this material, including additional automated checks, and we review this policy and those measures at least annually.
6. How to report
If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. In India, call 1098 (Childline) or 112.
In the app
Every profile carries a Report option. Choose the reason that fits: use "Inappropriate content" or "Inappropriate photo" for anything involving a minor, and add detail in the description field. You can also block a user, which stops any further contact between you.
By email
Report to info@nisfapp.com with "CHILD SAFETY" in the subject line. Please include the profile ID or the exact name shown, what you saw, and when.
Do not download, save, screenshot or forward suspected CSAM, even to report it. Possessing or transmitting it is a criminal offence in most jurisdictions, including India, regardless of your reason. Tell us where it is and we will retrieve it through our own systems.
What happens next
| Stage | Our commitment |
|---|---|
| Acknowledgement | Within 24 hours |
| Initial assessment and, where warranted, removal of the content from view | Within 24 hours of acknowledgement |
| Report to the relevant authorities where CSAE is identified | Without delay, and in any event within 24 hours of confirmation |
| Outcome communicated to the reporter | Where we lawfully can. We may be unable to share details of an active investigation |
Reports may be made anonymously. We will not disclose a reporter's identity to the person reported. Reporting in good faith will never count against you, even if we conclude that no violation occurred.
7. Reporting to authorities and enforcement
7.1 Reporting
Where we identify or confirm CSAM or CSAE conduct, we will:
- report to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through its CyberTipline, and
- report to the Indian authorities, including the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal (
cybercrime.gov.in) and, where appropriate, the local police and the relevant Child Welfare Committee under POCSO, and - report to the authorities in the user's own country, where a further obligation or channel applies.
We cooperate fully with law enforcement, and will respond to lawful requests for information, preserve data on request, and provide what we hold.
7.2 Enforcement
Where CSAE is identified we will, as applicable:
- remove the content immediately and permanently;
- terminate the account permanently, with no appeal for confirmed CSAE;
- preserve the account, content, and associated records for law enforcement;
- block re-registration, including by blocking the details associated with the account;
- review connected accounts for the same actor;
- notify and cooperate as described in §7.1.
Termination for CSAE is permanent. It is not a moderation decision that can be appealed through our ordinary process, and no refund of any subscription is due.
8. Designated contact
For all child safety matters, including reports, law enforcement requests, and enquiries from app stores, regulators or child protection organisations:
Email: info@nisfapp.com, subject line "CHILD SAFETY"
Post: Nisf Child Safety, Suite No. 72, Door No. 63/700, D Space, 6th Floor, Sky Tower Mavoor Road Junction, Bank Road Kozhikode, Kerala, India 673001
Messages with this subject line are prioritised ahead of ordinary support and are handled by a designated member of our team. Law enforcement and child protection agencies may contact us at this address, and we aim to respond within 24 hours.
9. Our team
Everyone at Nisf who reviews profiles, photographs or reports is briefed, before they are given access, on:
- how to recognise CSAM and the indicators of grooming and child sexual exploitation;
- the requirement to escalate immediately and not to investigate, download, copy or circulate suspected material themselves;
- how to preserve evidence correctly and what must never be deleted;
- the reporting obligations in §7, and who is responsible for making the report;
- the confidentiality owed to reporters and to any child involved.
This briefing is refreshed at least annually and whenever this policy changes. Because reviewing this material carries a real psychological toll, we limit exposure and support anyone who has to deal with it.
10. Related documents and changes
This policy sits alongside our Terms and Conditions (§2.1 age, §4 conduct, §7 moderation), our Privacy Policy (§9 children's privacy), and our EULA.
Nothing in any of those documents limits this one. Where a limitation of liability, a retention period or a deletion right would conflict with our obligation to preserve evidence and report CSAE, our child safety obligations prevail, and where the law requires us to retain or disclose data, we will.
We review this policy at least annually and whenever our practices, our tooling or the law changes. Material changes are published here with a revised date above.
