Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 12 September 2026

On this page

These terms govern your use of Nisf. They are a binding agreement between you and us, and by creating an account you accept them.

We have written these terms against what the app actually does, feature by feature. Where a rule exists because the app enforces it (the 18-year minimum, the three-attempt limit on requests, the review a deactivated profile goes through before it can go live again), we say so plainly, so you can tell the difference between a rule we apply and a rule we merely aspire to.

Who we are

Nisf Suite No. 72, Door No. 63/700, D Space, 6th Floor, Sky Tower Mavoor Road Junction, Bank Road Kozhikode, Kerala, India 673001

Contact: info@nisfapp.com

In these terms, "we", "us", "our" and "Nisf" refer to the above. "You" and "your" refer to the person using the app. "Service" means the Nisf mobile application and everything we operate to run it. Our Privacy Policy forms part of these terms.

1. What Nisf is, and what it is not

Nisf is a Muslim matrimonial service. Its purpose is to help adults find a spouse.

We are an introduction platform, not a marriage bureau, not an agent, and not a party to anything that follows. We do not vet compatibility, we do not arrange marriages, we do not represent either family, and we are not involved in what happens once two parties are in contact. §9 sets out the consequences of that in full.

Nisf has no in-app messaging. There is no chat between users. When a request is accepted, contact details are exchanged and the conversation moves to WhatsApp, off our platform. We are not present in that conversation and hold no record of it.

2. Eligibility

2.1 You must be 18 or over

Nisf is exclusively for adults aged 18 and over. The app enforces this: it will not accept a month of birth that would make you younger than 18, and the partner age preferences you set are bounded at 18 as well.

If you are under 18 you may not create an account, and you must not attempt to do so by misstating your age. If we discover that an account belongs to a minor we will delete it without notice.

2.2 You must be free to marry

You may use Nisf only if you are lawfully free to enter into a marriage under the law that applies to you.

The app asks you to state your marital status as never married, divorced, widowed, or (for male users only) seeking an additional spouse.

If you select "seeking an additional spouse" you are solely responsible for ensuring that a further marriage is lawful for you. Plural marriage is permitted for Muslims in some jurisdictions, including India under Muslim personal law, and is a criminal offence in many others, including the United Kingdom and across the European Union. We do not give legal advice, we do not verify your marital history, and we do not check the law of your country. Using this option where it is unlawful for you is a breach of these terms and may be a crime.

If you are currently married and are not lawfully permitted to marry again, you may not use Nisf to seek a spouse.

2.3 You must be genuine, and you must be yourself

You may hold only one account. You must be a real person creating a profile for yourself. Profiles created for someone else, on someone else's behalf, or in someone else's likeness are not permitted.

You must not misrepresent your age, gender, marital status, religion, education, profession, income, location, family circumstances, or anything else you state on your profile. Accuracy is not a courtesy here. People make decisions about marriage on the strength of what you have written.

2.4 Where we operate

Nisf is operated from India. We make no representation that the Service is appropriate or available in any particular country, and you are responsible for complying with your own local law in using it.

3. Your account and verification

3.1 Registering

You sign in with Google, Apple, email and password, or (for a wali) a phone number. You are responsible for keeping access to that account secure, and for everything done through it. Tell us immediately at info@nisfapp.com if you believe someone else has access to it.

3.2 Verification

Your account carries a verification status of pending, approved or rejected. Your profile separately carries a status of active, inactive, in review or deactivated.

  • You cannot send or accept requests until your account is verified. This is enforced in the app, not merely stated here.
  • A new profile becomes visible to other users when you submit it. We do not hold every profile for approval first. We moderate afterwards, reviewing reports and working through live profiles ourselves, and we may deactivate a profile at any time. §7 sets out exactly what our team checks and what we do about what we find. Read it: it is the part of these terms most likely to affect you.
  • A profile we have deactivated goes into review when you resubmit it, and stays hidden until we have looked at it again.
  • We may ask you to re-verify, for example if you change your phone number.
  • Sisters must nominate a wali (guardian) and provide his name, his relationship to you, and a contact number for him, before verification completes. We may contact him to confirm.

We may reject a verification request, at our discretion, where the information given appears inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or unverifiable. We are not obliged to explain a rejection in detail, though we will normally tell you the general reason so you can correct it.

3.3 Photographs

Photographs are part of a brother's profile only. Brothers may upload up to three photographs, and must upload at least one to submit a profile. A sister's profile carries no photographs at all. The app does not ask a sister for a photograph, and none is shown to anyone.

We recognise that some users hold the view that photography of people is impermissible. A brother who holds that view may apply for a photo exemption, which we review individually and may approve or reject. While a request is pending you cannot submit your profile; if it is rejected, the photograph requirement applies as normal. A sister needs no exemption, because no photograph is asked of her. The profile instead asks her whether she believes photography of people is impermissible, and her answer is shown on her profile alongside her other religious details.

Photographs must be of you, must be recent, and must not contain other identifiable people, contact details, or anything indecent. We check every photograph on a profile each time we review it, including photographs that passed an earlier review (§7.2).

4. Rules of conduct

4.1 Use Nisf for marriage, and nothing else

Nisf exists for one purpose: seeking a spouse. Using it for dating, casual relationships, friendship, networking, promotion, recruitment, research, or any purpose other than genuinely seeking marriage is a breach of these terms.

We enforce this on the basis of conduct, not belief. We do not assess how observant you are, and we do not remove people for holding one view of Islam rather than another. What we act on is behaviour: a person who is not seriously seeking marriage, who misrepresents themselves, or who treats other users disrespectfully, may be removed regardless of anything else about them.

4.2 Respect the process

Because contact moves off-platform quickly, a few expectations matter more here than they would elsewhere:

  • Approach a sister through her wali where she has asked for that. The wali arrangement is central to how this app works, and bypassing it is a breach of these terms.
  • Answer, or decline, honestly. If you are no longer interested, decline the request rather than leaving it to expire.
  • Do not continue contact once you have been asked to stop. After an introduction has been made, the other party is entitled to end the conversation at any time and for any reason.

4.3 Keep contact details off your profile

It is against our guidelines to put personal contact information on a profile: your full name, phone number, email address, social media handles, or the same information inside a photograph.

This is a safety rule, not a formality. Nisf's whole model is that contact details are exchanged only after both sides have agreed. Publishing them on your profile defeats that protection for you and removes the other party's ability to consent to being contacted.

This is the first thing our team checks on any profile it reviews, and the most common reason a profile is taken down (§7.2). A profile that carries contact details is deactivated and returned to you for correction; it goes back on the app once you have removed them.

4.4 What you must not do

You must not:

  • create a fake, duplicate, impersonating or automated profile;
  • harass, threaten, intimidate, insult, or sexually proposition another user;
  • send unsolicited advertising, spam, chain messages, or recruit users to any other service, product, scheme or cause;
  • solicit money, gifts, financial support, investment or donations from another user, whether for yourself or anyone else;
  • post or transmit anything obscene, indecent, hateful, defamatory, or unlawful;
  • discriminate against or abuse another user on the basis of their ethnicity, nationality, caste, colour, disability, or their school of thought within Islam;
  • collect, scrape or build a database of other users' profiles or photographs, by hand or by machine, or use the Service to run another matchmaking or listing service;
  • publish another user's contact details, or those of their wali or relative, or use them for anything other than the proposal itself;
  • attempt to access accounts, data or areas of the Service you are not entitled to, or to interfere with, probe or circumvent its security, its usage limits or its payment controls;
  • use the Service where doing so, or the marriage you are seeking through it, is unlawful for you.

Romance fraud is the risk we take most seriously. Any request for money from another user should be reported to us immediately and should not be acted on.

4.5 Reporting and blocking

You can report a profile from within the app, choosing from reasons that include inappropriate content, spam, duplicate and fake profiles, an incorrect gender, a phone number that belongs to someone else, personal information shown on a profile or in a photograph, and unresponsiveness after an introduction. You can also block a user, which prevents requests between you.

Reports are reviewed by a person on our team, and are one of the two ways a profile comes to us for review. See §7. We may act on a report, ask you for more information, or take no action, and we will not always be able to tell you the outcome.

5. Requests, subscriptions and payments

5.1 Requests

Contact on Nisf works through requests. Sending one consumes a request credit from your balance. The rules the app applies are:

  • A request expires if it is not answered. You choose the window when you send it: one week, one month, or no expiry.
  • Cancelling a pending request returns the credit to your balance.
  • Viewing a sister's wali contact details also costs a credit, where she has made those details visible to everyone. No request is needed for it, the app tells you the price before it charges you, and you pay it only once for that profile. Like sending, it needs a credit rather than an active account, so you can still do it while your account is inactive.
  • You may approach the same profile at most three times. If a request you sent expires unanswered, you can send that person a new one, up to three attempts in total; after that you cannot send another.
  • A decline ends your side of it. If someone declines your request, you cannot send them another one. The person who declined can still send you a request themselves if they change their mind, and the three-attempt limit applies to them in the same way.
  • Sending requires a request credit, or a plan that includes unlimited requests, together with a verified account and an active profile. Credits you hold can still be spent after your account becomes inactive, on sending a request or on viewing a wali's contact details.
  • Accepting requires an active account. While your account is inactive you cannot accept a request someone has sent you, and credits do not change that: credits are spent reaching people, not answering them.

Request credits have no cash value, cannot be transferred between accounts, and cannot be exchanged for money.

5.2 Free trial

When you complete registration we give you a one-week free trial, so you can look around before subscribing.

  • The trial runs for seven days. When it ends, your account becomes inactive.
  • Brothers also receive three free request credits with the trial. Sisters do not receive request credits this way: a sister is given full access once her wali's details have been verified (§3.2).
  • You can browse profiles during the trial, and you can send requests if you hold request credits. The ordinary rules in §5.1 still apply, so your account must be verified and your profile active before a request can be sent.
  • Free trial credits expire with the trial. Any credits left unspent when the seven days end are removed along with your access. This applies only to the credits given with the trial: credits you have paid for stay yours and can still be spent while your account is inactive (§5.1).
  • The free trial is available once. If a free trial has already been claimed, you can still create an account, but it starts inactive and without free credits. Trying to obtain further free trials, by any means, is a breach of §4.4.

We may change or withdraw the trial at any time. Changing it does not shorten a trial already running.

5.3 Subscriptions

Subscriptions are sold through the Apple App Store and Google Play.

  • Where a plan is described in months, a month means 30 days from the date of purchase, not a calendar month. A three-month plan runs for 90 days.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel, at the price and interval shown at purchase. You are charged by Apple or Google, not by us.
  • Cancel through your App Store or Google Play account settings. We cannot cancel a store subscription for you. Cancelling stops the next renewal; it does not shorten the period you have already paid for.
  • Prices may change. Where they do, the change applies from your next renewal and you will be told in advance by the store.

We may also issue promotional codes, which grant access for a stated number of months. Codes are not transferable, have no cash value, and may be withdrawn or expire.

5.4 Coaching sessions

Coaching sessions are booked and paid for separately. The terms shown to you on the booking screen apply to that booking and take precedence over this section. Those terms cover, for each coach and session:

  • the length of the session, which cannot be extended;
  • how late you may arrive before the session is cancelled without a refund;
  • how many times you may reschedule, and how much notice you must give;
  • how much notice the coach must give to cancel.

Coaches are independent. We do not employ them, we do not supervise the content of a session, and we are not responsible for the advice given in one or for any dispute between you and a coach. Nisf is a platform that connects coaches and trainees, nothing more.

5.5 Donations

Donations are collected through our payment provider. Donations are voluntary and are not refundable, except where a payment was taken in error or was not authorised by you. A donation buys no goods, services, subscription time, request credits or privileges of any kind.

5.6 Refunds

  • Subscriptions and in-app purchases are sold by Apple and Google. Refunds are theirs to give and are governed by their policies, not ours. Request one through the store you bought it from. We can rarely intervene.
  • Coaching sessions follow the cancellation terms shown on the booking screen. Where those terms do not settle the matter, we will decide fairly, and our decision is final.
  • Donations are not refundable, as set out in §5.5.
  • Request credits are returned to your balance when you cancel a pending request. They are not refundable for money.

We do not refund for lack of results. Not receiving requests, not having requests accepted, or not finding a spouse is not a basis for a refund. What you pay for is access to the Service, not an outcome.

Nothing here limits any statutory right to a refund you may have under the consumer law of your own country.

5.7 Card details

Card and bank details never reach us. Payments are handled entirely by our payment providers and by the app stores.

6. Content and intellectual property

6.1 The licence you give us

To operate the Service, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt, resize, translate and display your content, for the following purposes only:

  • showing your profile to other users, subject to your visibility settings;
  • operating search, filtering and compatibility scoring;
  • backing up, moderating and supporting the Service.

This licence is limited to running Nisf. We do not use your photographs or your profile text in advertising, marketing or promotion, and we do not license them to anyone else. The licence ends when you delete the content or your account, except for copies we are required to keep or that remain briefly in backups and logs. See §5 of the Privacy Policy.

6.2 You must have the right to post it

You are responsible for everything you upload. You must own it or have permission to use it, and it must not infringe anyone's rights. Photographs must not include other identifiable people without their consent.

6.3 Other users' content

Profiles and photographs you see on Nisf belong to the people who posted them.

Nisf gives you a built-in way to copy a profile's details as text, or to share it as a PDF, so that you can discuss a match with your family or your wali. What it produces is deliberately limited: it does not include anyone's contact details, and photographs are included only where the person's own photo settings allow it.

Contact details are different. Where a request is accepted and you are given another user's phone number, or their wali's or relative's details, you may use them to take that proposal forward and nothing else. You must not publish them or share them in any group, channel or listing, or use them for advertising or any other commercial purpose. Doing so is a breach of these terms and may also breach that person's rights under privacy law.

6.4 Our content

The Nisf name, logo, app, design, text and software are ours or our licensors'. You may not copy, modify, reverse-engineer, resell or create derivative works from them.

6.5 Feedback

If you send us suggestions, we may use them freely and without obligation to you.

7. Moderation, suspension and removal

7.1 How moderation works

Moderation on Nisf is carried out by our team. A member of our team opens a profile and reads it the way another user would.

A profile comes to our attention in two ways:

  • You report it. Every report raised in the app is routed to our team and reviewed (§4.5).
  • We check it ourselves. Our team works through live profiles routinely, whether or not anyone has reported them. Your profile can be reviewed at any time, including long after it was submitted and approved.

We may review any profile, photograph or report, but we are not obliged to monitor everything, and a profile that has not been actioned is not a profile we have endorsed. §9.1 sets out what our moderation does and does not amount to.

7.2 What we check

We set this out plainly, because almost every profile we deactivate is deactivated for something the user could easily have avoided. When we review a profile, we look at:

  • Your free-text sections ("About", your hobbies, and what you are looking for) for personal contact information. We check them for a full name, a phone number, an email address or a social media handle, whether written out, spelled out, or shown inside a photograph. This is the most common reason a profile is taken down, and the easiest to get right: see §4.3 for why the rule exists.
  • Whether your profile is consistent with itself, including your age alongside the partner age preferences you have set. Set your age honestly, and set an age range you would genuinely consider.
  • Whether the profile is genuinely of the gender it states. Profiles created by a man posing as a woman, or the reverse, are removed.
  • Every photograph on the profile. We check all of your photographs on each review, including ones that passed an earlier review. A photograph accepted before may still be removed later. Photographs must be recent photographs of you, must not show other identifiable people, and must not contain contact details or anything indecent (§3.3).
  • Whether the profile is genuine at all. We look for duplicate accounts, profiles created for or about someone else, and profiles carrying the hallmarks of spam, advertising, recruitment or fraud.

We do not assess how observant, attractive, wealthy or marriageable you are. We are checking that you are a real, single person seeking marriage, that you have described yourself honestly, and that you are not exposing your own or anyone else's contact details. Nothing else.

We do not publish the full detail of how we review profiles, or the weight we give to any particular signal. That information would be of most use to the people we are trying to keep off the app.

7.3 What we may do about it

We may deactivate, suspend or delete any profile or account, reject a verification request or a photo exemption request, or remove any photograph or content, at our discretion, where we believe it is inappropriate, misleading, spam, fake, duplicated, contains personal contact information, breaches these terms, or otherwise harms the quality, safety or integrity of the app or its community.

In practice our response is proportionate to what we find:

  • Most often, we return the profile to you for correction. We deactivate it, which hides it from other users, tell you in the app what needs to change, and wait for you to change it. Nothing is deleted, and your account, credits and subscription are unaffected.
  • We may reject a verification request where the information you have given appears inaccurate, incomplete, misleading or unverifiable, so that you cannot send or accept requests until it is put right (§3.2).
  • We may remove a photograph without touching the rest of the profile.
  • We may remove the profile or the account outright, without first asking you to correct anything.

Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you what happened and give you the chance to put it right. Where the issue is serious (fraud, impersonation, posing as another gender, harassment, a risk to another user, or anything unlawful), we may act immediately and without notice, and we are not obliged to offer a correction first.

Repeatedly doing the same thing after we have told you to stop will be treated more seriously than the first instance of it.

If we remove your account for breaching these terms, you may not register again, and we may block the details associated with the account to prevent it.

7.4 Getting a deactivated profile back

If we deactivate your profile and ask you to correct it, make the change and submit it again. The profile then goes into review and stays hidden from other users until we have looked at it a second time. Resubmitting without making the change simply returns it to us unchanged.

7.5 If you think we got it wrong

We are not obliged to explain a decision in detail, and we cannot always tell you the outcome of a report you made about someone else (§4.5). But we do make mistakes. If you believe we have acted wrongly, write to info@nisfapp.com with your account details and we will look at it again.

8. Availability

We work to keep Nisf running, but we do not promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it, and we may release updates that you need to install to keep using it.

We do not guarantee that any particular feature, coach, course or price will remain available.

9. Limitation of liability

Please read this section carefully. It sets out the limits of what we are responsible for.

9.1 We do not vouch for other users

We verify what we reasonably can, and we moderate profiles and act on reports. That is a filter, not a guarantee, and it largely operates after a profile is already visible. The checks described in §7.2 rest on human judgement and on what a profile itself reveals. They catch what can be caught that way, and no more. We cannot confirm that a person is who they say they are, that their marital status is as stated, that they are free to marry, that their family circumstances are as described, or that they are acting in good faith. A profile we have reviewed and left in place is not a profile we vouch for.

You are responsible for satisfying yourself about anyone you meet through Nisf. Make your own enquiries. Involve your family. Verify what matters to you before you commit to anything, and never send money to someone you have met through the app.

9.2 We are not responsible for what happens between users

We are not a party to any introduction, courtship, engagement, marriage, agreement or dispute between users, or between a user and a wali, family member, coach or third party.

We are not responsible for the outcome of any match or marriage, including its failure, breakdown, dissolution, or any financial, emotional, reputational or family consequence of it. We do not accept liability for the conduct of any user, whether online, in person, or after contact moves to WhatsApp.

9.3 Off-platform contact

Once contact details are exchanged, the conversation leaves Nisf. We have no visibility of, and no control over, anything said or done there, and we cannot moderate, retrieve or act on it in the way we could on our own platform.

9.4 Coaching and courses

Coaching sessions and educational content are provided for general guidance. They are not legal, medical, psychological, financial or religious advice on which you should rely for your own situation, and no counsellor-client or similar professional relationship is created. Coaches are independent, as set out in §5.4.

9.5 The legal limits

To the fullest extent the law allows:

  • the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied;
  • we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive or exemplary loss, or for loss of profit, opportunity, reputation, data or goodwill;
  • our total liability to you, for all claims combined, is limited to whatever you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose, or ₹5,000, whichever is greater.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that the law of your country does not permit us to exclude. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

9.6 Indemnity

If someone brings a claim against us because of your breach of these terms, your content, or your conduct towards another user, you agree to indemnify us against that claim and its reasonable costs, except to the extent it results from our own act or omission.

10. Ending your use of Nisf

10.1 Ending it yourself

You may stop using Nisf at any time.

  • Deactivating your profile hides it from other users while keeping your account.
  • Deleting your profile removes it and its photographs.
  • Deleting your account removes your account and associated data, as described in §6.2 of the Privacy Policy.

Deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription. Cancel that separately in your App Store or Google Play settings, or you will continue to be charged. Deletion does not entitle you to a refund of unused subscription time or request credits.

10.2 Ending it from our side

We may suspend or terminate your access as set out in §7.

10.3 What survives

Termination does not affect anything that has already happened. Sections 6.1 (the licence, to the extent stated), 6.4, 9, 11 and this section survive it.

11. Disputes and governing law

11.1 Talk to us first

Most problems are quicker to solve directly. Before starting any formal proceedings, please write to info@nisfapp.com with the details, and give us 30 days to resolve it. We will do the same before bringing a claim against you.

11.2 Grievance officer

For users in India, complaints under the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the rules made under it may be sent to our grievance officer at info@nisfapp.com, marked "Grievance". We will acknowledge within 24 hours and resolve within the period the rules require.

11.3 Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by the laws of India. The courts at Kozhikode, Kerala have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.

If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of your country of residence, or of your right to bring proceedings there where that law gives you that right.

12. General

  • Changes. We may change these terms. When we do we will revise the "Last updated" date above, and for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use Nisf after that means you accept them. If you do not, stop using the Service and delete your account.
  • Severability. If any provision is held unenforceable, the rest stands.
  • No waiver. If we do not enforce a provision, we have not given it up.
  • Assignment. You may not transfer your rights under these terms. We may transfer ours to a successor, on notice to you.
  • Entire agreement. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between us about the Service.
  • Not a partnership. Nothing here makes either of us the agent, partner, employee or representative of the other.
  • Apple and Google. Where you obtained the app from the App Store or Google Play, these terms are between you and us, not with Apple or Google. They are not responsible for the app or for support of it, and their own terms apply to your purchase.
